On August 21-22, 2025, a workshop/training was held in National Forestry Agency (NFA) within the framework of the project ““Redirecting efforts towards conservation through "Forest Friend" – A Platform to catalyze reforestation and forest conservation activities through the participation of the private sector and the general public (Phase 2).”
The meeting included 4 sessions:

Potential for generation of carbon credits from the forest sector in Georgia;

Overview of successful carbon markets worldwide;

Presentation of the draft version of the "1,255 ha floodplain forest restoration - conservation project proposal;"

Cost-benefit analysis of the project proposal.
The main goal of the above-mentioned workshops was to provide information to the employees of the National Forest Agency (NFA), LEPL of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture, on the necessary steps to be taken to establish a carbon crediting system in the forest sector and to involve Georgia in the carbon offsetting mechanisms through carbon credits trading schemes.

The Deputy Head of LEPL National Forestry Agency- Natia Iordanishvili, Project management from the UNDP Georgia office, representatives of the Forestry Department of the Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture of Georgia, employees of the National Forestry Agency (NFI) with the Ministry, experts in the field.
The main speakers were representatives of the non-governmental organizations “Sustainable Development Center - Remissia”, “Ecolution Georgia” and “Omnia” and independent expert G. Mukhigulashvili.
